This Week’s Favorites: Colorful Nails.Daring Greatly. Metal Heels

Happy New Year beauties!

We are already 19 days into the new year. Wow! Is the new year off to a fast start or is it just me?

Instead of making new year resolutions, my quest is for me to keeping working on pushing past the fears in hopes of making my way to RISK Street. That’s where the rewards reside if we continue to push forward.

The journey of self-discovery is coming along nicely thanks to those bi-weekly sessions with my therapist, and I can definitely see the improvements in my personal life. Those same sentiments are echoed by friends and family, I’m just grateful to God for giving me a second chance. Every waking moment is a gift to try again.

With that same mindset, I have decided to bring that optimism to the blog. I’ve embarked on a new challenge for the blog. I call it a “challenge”  because one of the things I sometimes struggle with the most is wondering how much of myself I should share on the interwebs. Don’t get me wrong….I love the photoshoots and getting all dressed up, however, this year I want to also invite you along on my travels, new found adventures, and weekly obsessions!

Aniwho! Here’s a roundup of what I’m into this week:

1. Orange Nails

(this picture was taken 5 days later)

Making it a point to keep my nails looking caaute this year. I’m not one of those women who likes to get their nails done at the salon. Personally, I just prefer to do them myself.

So last week Friday, my mother and I decided to treat ourselves to a quick manicure. Not only did we get to bond and share a few laughs, but it felt good to do something just for me. Another bonus? The color orange “brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life.” I’ll take it!

Shout out to Jason at Awesome Nails & Spa.

2. Current Read: Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transform the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brene´ Brown, Ph.D., LMSW

Also, I picked out this book on Amazon simply because of the book title. The Book title? Yep, you read that right. That’s how I normally pick out my next read. This title resonates with me because I too desire to dare greatly. Currently on Chapter 4 (The Vulnerability Armor). So far, I’m digging it (did I just say digging it?) Haha!

If you’ve ever been bound by fear, thinking your “not good enough” or you just want to be free to walk in your purpose. Then this book is for you. I have highlighted and underlined a few pages so far -if you follow me on le´(Snapchat: alicemareus) then you’ve probably seen a few of them. Here is one of my favorite excerpt from the book so far:

“……we gave to make the long journey from “What will people think?” to “I am enough.” That journey begins with shame resilience, self-compassion, and owning your stories. To claim the truths about who we are, where we come from, what we believe, and the very imperfect nature of our lives, we have to be willing to give ourselves a break and appreciate the beauty of our cracks or imperfections.”

I wrote YES!! next to that statement because I pledge to remind myself daily that I AM ENOUGH! I hope you will too.

3.  BCBGMaxazria Metal Heel Cutout Bootie

(aka Bad Mama Jamas)

Now you know I couldn’t end this post without saying sumthin’ about my favorite brand. Shoe lovers everywhere, let us take a moment to admire the beauty that radiates through your computer screen…….(please bow your heads for a moment of silence)

These bad mama jamas caught my attention while I was wasting time on eBay doing nothing. NOT-A-THING. Don’t act like I’m the only one who does that. That phone has a way of sucking you in for hours if you’re not careful…Get thee behind me Satan!

Since I gave up mindless shopping and a few other indulgences due to a stricter budget, as a result, I bookmarked the page in hopes of getting them as a Christmas present to myself. Two weeks before the reindeer showed up, I made good on my promise and Amazon….*Ahem* I mean Santa, delivered it to my door.

Immediately, I placed them slowly on my feet like I was Cinderella wearing her glass slipper and strutted up and down my apartment. Can’t wait to rock them in my next photo shoot.

Finally, if you liked what you just read, you can thank me by posting it on social media or sharing it with a friend! Btw, did you get a chance to listen to my latest podcast?

Until next time. Wishing you peace, love, and light!
